Do you ever find yourself at those moments when you have an event you need to attend and your nails just aren’t ready for a manicure for an hour? Same! To make lemonade out of lemons, I decided this was the perfect time to add a Clockwork MiNiCURE. I was thrilled to discover that my nails could be polished professionally in just 10 minutes for $8.

A Clockwork MiNiCURE, which is a fully autonomous 10 minute nail polish change, is a new phenomenon that you may not have heard of. It’s basically a robot that paints nails. Renuka Apte, co-founder, and CEO says, “We wanted to make it affordable and accessible for women to receive a high quality service without having to spend a lot of time or money. We are changing the way express beauty is done! But not quite in a salon environment.”

Everyone is talking about the new nail-painting robotic, even nail artists. Rita Remark is Essie’s Global Lead Education and Nail Artist. “I find it fascinating,” she says. “I believe that any nail innovation will benefit the entire industry and I’m eager to test it.”

What is the Difference Between a Regular and a Clockwork MiNiCURE?

Clockwork MiNiCURE, an express manicure, paints nails precisely in 10 minutes. Apte says that automation offers users an alternative for those times when they don’t want to wait or for quality assurance.

Remark says that the Clockwork MiNiCURE might not be the right choice for you if you want to experience a full manicure. The Clockwork MiNiCURE polishes nails, but it is not a manicure. It’s just a polish application. Manicures include filing the nails and caring for them. This will give you a manicure that is even if your nails are uneven or your cuticles are jagged.

What can you expect when you go for a clockwork MiNiCURE treatment?

The attendant greeted me when I arrived at Clockwork MiNiCURE. She asked me to choose a nail color. The attendant directed me to the Clockwork MiNiCURE robotic and instructed how to use it.

It was quite exciting to see the Clockwork MiNiCURE. I wasn’t sure what to expect or how a robot could paint my nails. But I was eager to give it a shot. I started by pressing the start button on the robot, and then inserting the nail colour cartridge. It’s very similar to how you would insert the nail color cartridge into a Nespresso machine if you have loaded a pod.

Before I could begin my Clockwork MiNiCURE treatment, the robot showed me a short tutorial video that explained the steps and tricks for getting great polish. After the tutorial, I put my hand on the handrest and was told to say “ready” verbally to the robot. Although it felt strange to shout “ready” at a robot, it eventually understood me and began to paint one finger at a while. To signal to the Clockwork MiNiCURE, that I was ready to paint the next nail, I said “ready” after each nail had been completed.

It was a therapeutic experience. I have to admit that it was refreshing to be able not to be interrupted by a manicurist asking me questions about my work or how my week went.

What is the Average Time It Takes to Get a Clockwork MiNiCURE?

Although the Clockwork MiNiCURE takes approximately 10 minutes, mine took around 15 minutes. It can take some time to get used to the robot, especially if you are a beginner. You will need to watch the entire tutorial.

Sitting still is the key to achieving professional-looking nails with the Clockwork MiNiCURE. You should never move the robot or ruin your manicure.

How does the robot know where to paint?

I was truly amazed at the accuracy of Clockwork MiNiCURE. Given the differences in nail beds, the Clockwork MiNiCURE managed to paint my nails with perfect precision and leave enough space around the cuticle.

Apte explained that the Clockwork MiNiCURE is precise because it takes a picture each finger using its dual 3D cameras and stitches them together before sending the result to its AI. Our AI is able to identify edges with a precision of 0.3mm and tell the robot what is skin or nail. The data is sent to our advanced algorithms, which then determine the movement of the nozzle to deposit nail polish at the correct places.

Are You Required to Prepare Your Nails for a Clockwork MiNiCURE?

Yes. You might need to purchase a quality nail file and a clipper if you aren’t used to doing it yourself. However, a Clockwork MiNiCURE is less expensive than a full manicure.

For any additional cleaning, disposable nail polish remover pads are available at all locations. Clockwork MiNiCURE uses a variety of well-known nail polish brands. All of our brands are safe and non-toxic. They range in price from 5-free up to 10-free. Apte says that we currently offer nail polish options made from OPI and Essie, Zoya China Glaze, Salon Perfect and our own proprietary formulas.

You can’t yet use your own nail varnish for the Clockwork MiNiCURE. Apte says that the polishes are specially chosen or formulated to provide great coverage and don’t stain nails. They also work well with the Clockwork MiNiCURE and come in single-use cartridges to ensure hygiene and safety.

Do You Need to Do Anything to Your Nails after the Clockwork MiNiCURE?

It’s important to allow your nails to dry completely, just like a salon manicure. I stayed at the salon for a while to ensure that my nails were dry. Quick Dry Drops were applied to my nails before I left to make the nail polish last longer. When I returned home, I applied a quick drying top coat.

What is the Lifespan of a Clockwork MiNiCURE?

The Clockwork MiNiCURE can last as long as regular manicures, anywhere between four and seven days. The polish’s life can be extended by applying a topcoat at home.

What Does a Clockwork MiNiCURE cost?

The Clockwork MiNiCURE cost only $8. That’s cheaper than lunch!

What are the Pros and Cons to a Clockwork MiNiCURE?

Remark: “The main benefit is the uniform and even nail polish application.” The service is also fast, which saves both the manicurist and the customer time. It only polishes nails, so it is only one part of a manicure.

Apte suggests that the Clockwork MINiCURE should be viewed as either a vending machine, or a fast-casual restaurant. The founder says that, “just as these things haven’t affected sit-down restaurants, so we don’t consider ourselves to be competitive with traditional salons.” People will visit salons for more elaborate and pampering services, but if they need something quick, the Clockwork MiNiCURE is the best option.
