6 Must-Have Denim Styles for 2022

In 1873, Levi’s first ever denim style was created as a producer of workwear trousers. Nearly 150 years later, denim has expanded its reach by a revolving door denim trends – from edgy raw edges to 70s-inspired high waist and wide-leg silhouettes all the way to earthy neutrals.

Experts and founders of the following women-led jeans brand will agree. Denim was once a simple workman’s uniform. Today, it is anything. Denim is a cultural icon, worn in the Wild West as well as on the silver screen and a staple wardrobe item worn around the world, it can also be personal and emotionally. Tara Rudes Dann, Fashion Director and Partner of L’Agence in New York City, says that investing in the right jeans can transform a woman’s appearance and make her feel amazing. Brigette Deshais, AYR’s Vice-President of Women’s Design, explains that sometimes all you need to make sense is the perfect pair of jeans for every other item in your wardrobe.

Aim Sahara, founder of Tu Es Mon Tresor denim brand, says that investing in quality jeans will ensure they last a lifetime. Sonia Mosseri, Creative Director and Co-Founder, denim brand Still Here, is also on board.

We’ve compiled six of the most sought-after denim trends for 2022 with our approval.

High-Rise, Wide-Leg Denim

Aimi Sahara, founder of Tu Es Mon Tresor denim brand, says that “high-rise, wide-leg jeans styles combine the best of comfort with sophistication.” The wide-leg silhouette is perfect for winter, but allows for breathability in warmer months. Sahara recommends pairing your high-rise, wide leg jeans with a shorter or V-neck tee in order to contrast the long hemline.

Sonia Mosseri is the Creative Director and Co-Founder at denim brand Still Here. She loves to pair the maxi skirts of the season with a tank or a cropped white shirt. You can create a new look for staple denim pieces by playing with different silhouettes like skirting or incorporating embellishments, embroidery, applique and sleeve motifs. Mosseri says that denim is an excellent investment as it’s a fabric that people can wear every single day.

Carpenter Jeans

Retro-leaning styles like carpenter jeans were made with function in mind. They had pockets and hammer loops for tools storage. They’re a fashion statement today, as they were reinterpreted by designers such as Valentino, Balenciaga and Bottega Veneta. Sahara of Tu Es Mon Tresor says, “It’s an individual’s instinct and personal styling that makes an older style relatable again.”

Deshais points out that while rigid jeans may look great, it is important to feel comfortable in the denim you choose. Choose stretch – no one wants to wear heavy jeans that aren’t breathable or pinching in the wrong places. She says that a good pair of jeans instantly makes your clothing feel new again.
