Mascara is the ideal look for minimalist makeup artists, regardless of whether you use it on your entire face. It can highlight your eyes and help to hide other parts of the face.
What if your mascara application was wrong? We were guilty of this mistake too. These 3 tips will completely transform the way you apply mascara in no time. It will also lengthen, thicken and curl your eyes, making them “wow!”
Tip #1: Cornstarch can be used as an extension.
This tip is so simple it’s difficult to believe that it’s not more popular as a lash-extension method. Cornstarch and arrowroot powder can thicken any liquid. These ingredients are almost the same, but they come from different plants. You can choose which one you have in your pantry or easily find at the grocery.
These powders can be applied to your eyelashes to add volume and length. This tip is easy to use:
- In a small bowl, or jar, add a tablespoon of cornstarch/arrowroot powder.
- Use a small brush, or an unused mascara wand to dip your brush in the powder.
- Then apply the powder to your eyelashes as you would mascara.
- Dust the powder on the top and bottom of your eyelashes until it is lightly coated. It will appear lighter.
It was so easy! You’re now ready to move on to step 2.
Tip #2: Curl your lashes.
An eyelash curler may look like torture equipment at first glance. It’s actually a great beauty tool. Make sure you have new pads for your curler. If you don’t have the right pads, you can purchase a new set at any drugstore.
Next, remove the clamp from the eye and place your eyelashes between them. Next, gently squeeze your eyelashes between the clamps. Try to get close to the roots. This should only be done once per eye.
Your lash extending powder won’t come off. You shouldn’t squeeze your lashes too hard or curl your lashes so often that the powder doesn’t get everywhere.
It’s now time to apply mascara.
Tip #3: Use mascara.
Now you can grab your mascara tube. Choose the brand, color and style that you like. Take the tube out of your hand and take out any chunks. Begin by brushing from the roots of your lashes to the tips. To coat your lashes completely and to remove any clumping, do this several times.

Bonus tip #1: After applying mascara, use a safety pin. This will allow you to separate lashes that are stuck together. Be careful not to poke your eyes or eyelids! To ensure safety, you should disinfect the safety pin with alcohol prior to use. After each use, wipe it clean.
Bonus tip #2: Add a few drops of contact solution to your mascara bottle if it is starting to dry out or become thicker. Let it sit overnight. This will extend the life of your mascara tube for months and allow you to use every last drop.
Bonus tip #3: Add 1-2 drops lavender essential oil to your mascara tube to condition your eyelashes. Give it a good shake and let it sit for at least one night before you apply your mascara. Every time you apply mascara, you should smell lavender. Essential oils are not recommended for pregnant women. They can also cause irritation if accidentally absorbed into an open eye or in the eye. Tip #4: Castor oil can be applied to your eyelashes to increase their length and thickness naturally. Castor oil is our preferred choice.
