Do you know the old saying, “beauty begins within”? It’s true. This is why we are presenting this article to show you that superfood is packed full of vitamins and food-grade ingredients. A healthy diet rich in good fats, vitamins C, collagen and amino acids can make a big difference in the appearance of your skin. These six superfoods are packed with nutrients and we have a few of our favorite goop recipes.
Lemon:
It’s amazing for skin because of its high level of vitamin C. This helps to neutralize free radicals, and makes collagen and elastin. These are the two most alkalizing foods. Although lemons can taste very acidic, once they are metabolized the minerals in them will help to alkalize our blood and balance our pH levels (which is often too acidic due over consumption of alcohol and coffee). Our skin can become extremely sensitive and dry if our pH levels are too low.
Blueberries:
Blueberries are a great way to get antioxidants. Antioxidants are good for skin. They help to fight free radicals (one the skin’s most dangerous enemies), which can damage skin cells and collagen. This can lead to wrinkles and dry skin. Vitamin A is also found in blueberries, which can help normalize oil levels and aid in natural clearing up of acne-prone skin.
Avocados:
Avocados are known for being great for your skin. They are rich in both mono- and polyunsaturated fat acids (like omega 9), which keep skin firm and dewy. They also help to reduce inflammation and redness. Your epidural layer, the top layer of your skin, is moisturized by omega 9’s. This gives you a more hydrated, healthy-looking skin. Avocados are rich in antioxidant carotenoids, which not only help to fight the damage and premature aging of skin, but also maintain your skin’s water content and elasticity.
Salmon
Omega 3’s are another great fat that can do wonders for your skin. Salmon is an example of this. These polyunsaturated fat acids help protect your skin from the sun, repair damaged skin and keep cells membranes healthy. They also keep toxins out of your skin and make it soft and supple.
Bone broth
Bone broth is excellent for skin elasticity because it’s rich in collagen, minerals such as calcium and magnesium, as well essential amino acids. After bones have been simmered for hours, collagen in them turns into gelatin. This gel is what keeps your skin elastic, firm, and smooth. Gelatin in bone broth can also soothe the digestive tract and reduce inflammation. This is yet another reason to fight aging.
Turmeric:
Turmeric’s incredible anti-inflammatory properties make it great for skin. Inflammation can cause skin to look tired and puffy if it isn’t controlled. Drinking fresh or dried turmeric can help reduce inflammation and keep skin looking younger. It also helps relieve other inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema or rosacea.
