Jerrell Obee believes eating a plant-based diet means taking baby steps toward the bigger picture. He opened Jerrell’s BeTR BRGR in New York City last week, and the restaurant welcomed its first customers.

The restaurant is open for dining in a walk-up setting, and there are outdoor tables as well as standing tables. Obee shared that some people can feel intimidated by veganism. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change published a 2019 report on the benefits to widespread switching to plant-based diets by 2050. It predicted that plant-based diets would have the greatest impact on carbon emissions.

The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. weekends.
