You’re not alone if you have been wondering how to style cowboy boots to look more street-style star than Daisy Duke. According to internet resource, western footwear searches have steadily increased this winter. We are still trying to figure out how to make this trend work, other than simply wearing them with a pair blue-wash skinny jeans and tying a flannel shirt around our waists. We were able to find 20 fashionable women who seem to have cracked this code.

Is it still stylish in 2022?

Yes!!! Cowboy boots have been slipping off and on our shopping lists for years. But they are back in the spotlight for another year in 2022. The best part is that there are many styles to choose from. You can choose from classic brown soft leather, metallic silver or red with embroidered roses. All styles fit in with this trend.

Should I wear it on or under pants?

You can wear either one, but each option requires a different silhouette of the legs. You can tuck with slim jeans, leggings, and other slim fittings. These will not look bulky, or hang too high above your boot. They will also help make your legs appear longer and more toned. Wide-leg styles and boot cuts, on the other hand, will flow easily over your boot’s top. For those with straight legs, you can save your style for another day. Instead, choose a trendy shoe (such as chunky loafers, or retro ’70s sneakers).

How to wear cowboy boots in 2022

1. RANCHER HAT + SHIRTDRESS + CLASSIC BOOTS

Let’s start with basics. Instead of going all western, wear your brown or black boots with a shirtdress made from a heavier fabric like denim or flannel. Then add a felt rancher hat or similar wide-brim hat to complete the look. This combination is both cowboy and urban chic.

2. BLACK DENIM JACKET + BLACK SKINNY JEANS + CONTRASTING BOOTS

You might be more comfortable in pants, so try a reworked version the Canadian tuxedo. This is also known as denim on denim. It’s made with clean black washes that have no distressing. To really elevate your style, keep your accessories modern (yes, a structured lady bag but no fringe-trimmed tote).

3. WHITE BUTTON UP + PATTERNED SHIRT + BLACK BOOTS

Although cowboy boots can be a focal point in an outfit, they don’t necessarily have to be. They look great paired with a boldly-patterned mini or midi skirt, and a classic white blouse.

4. BLAZER + MIDI DRESS + COWBOY BOOTS

This look for date night is much more wearable than strappy stilettos, but it’s just as charming for making a first impression.

5. PATTERNED COAT + PATTERNED BAG + BOOTS + SILK-HUED DRESS

For mixing and matching prints like a pro, a solid, neutral-hued foundation is a good tip. A black dress, white jeans, and a white T shirt are some examples. You can then work your way up, adding all the colorblocking, zebra stripes, and plaids you like without being too extravagant.

Another tip: Make sure that all printed pieces have at least one common color.

6. BLACK DRESS + INTRICATE COLORFUL BOOTS

Pair your red embroidered boots with a simple black dress and minimal accessories if you want them to be the center of attention.

7. SWEATER DRESS + KNEE HIGH BOOTS

Pair your western boots with a warm knit dress to make them winter-ready. In 2022, chunkier, looser sweater dresses will be in fashion, but smaller knits will still look great, as long as they are below the knee.

8. SILK SCARF + LEATHER GLOVES + BOOTLEG PANTS + ANKLE BOOTS

You can add a touch Hollywood glamour to your look by knotting a silk scarf under the chin and wearing leather or suede gloves. You could also tuck skinny jeans in your booties but we prefer wide-leg pants that can slide over your boot’s top.

9. PRINTED MINIDRESS + WHITE BOOTS

You can give the cowboy trend a 1960s twist by pairing simple, plain white boots with a flirty mini.

10. STRUCTURED JACKET + T-SHIRT + SHORTS + COWBOY BOOTS

You can wear shorts with cowboy boot and not look like Daisy Duke. It is important to pick shorts and boots that have a polished look. Look for longer hems, cleaner washes, or non-denim options that are paired with black leather and suede that don’t slouch. Add a structured jacket, such as a blazer, that hits your hips within two inches and voilà!

11. WHITE TOP + WHITEN SKIRT + BOOTS

Monochromatic looks are a good option if you’re unsure. A look that is too beige or head-to-toe beige can be boring. Brighter colors might seem overwhelming. However, white clothing paired with white boots will make a stylish ensemble that even minimalist fashionistas will love. To add depth and texture, experiment with subtle patterns or textures, such as denim with white-and silver snakeskin.

12. BLACK TOP + BLACK SKIRT + BLACK BOOTS & GOLD HARDWARE

If you choose to wear monochrome, you shouldn’t overlook the power and ease of all-black. However, too much darkness can make you look a lot bigger and less attractive. To add some interest and spice things up, try adding a few gold hints to your look, such as a belt buckle, necklace, or decorative cap to your boots.

13. SILKY MIDI DRESS + LEATHER BELTS + TALL BOOTS

Although it may not seem like the right match for rugged boots and sleek workwear, adding in a casual piece like a belt or leather jacket can help to bridge the gap. For maximum style points, make sure your hem hits at least one inch below your boots’ top.

14. DENIM SHIRT + KNIT MIDI SKIRT + HEELED BOLTS

This cozy combo is perfect for autumn afternoons. Hot tip: Wearing white boots, or another light-colored shoe can lighten the mood and make you feel less heavy.

15. HEADBAND + PREPPY MINI+ COWBOY BOOTS

Choose pieces that are all in the same color family to show your ranch-loving and preppy sides. Black boots, a black headband and a green-and black plaid dress all work well together. But a brown-and yellow floral headband, brown boots, and a pale-yellow mini skirt would also look great together.

16. WHITE DRESS + BLACK BELT AND BLACK-AND-WHITE BOOTS

You could also wear a black dress and a white belt. For an elevated look, embrace your Cruella De Vil fashion sense and wear only black and white.

17. PATTERNED TOP + CONTRASTING BOTTOM + BLACK AND-WHITE BOOTS

If you love a maximalist look, pair your cowboy boots with two striking prints. You don’t want to include a through-color in every piece. Instead, choose patterns that are similar in size or style, such as two large contrasting plaids.

18. SWEATER VEST + MINI DRESS + CLASSIC BOOTS

Combining two of the most popular 2022 trends, cowboy boots and sweater vests, creates an ultra-trendy ensemble. To keep it simple and chic, layer a solid-hued knit with a dress in the exact same color.

19. TURTLENECK TEE + MIDI SHIRTS + MID-CALF BOOTS

This combination is a great example of a layered look. For added warmth and bulk, slip a thin turtleneck underneath a button-front mini. To balance your top layers, choose boots that only show a few inches under your dress’s hem.

20. ANYTHING GREAT

Bold fashion pieces such as cowboy boots are meant to be fun. Wear what makes you happy. You can make your own style by tucking corduroy skinnies in burgundy boots, and then adding a floral-embroidered denim vest.
