You’ve probably seen pictures of celebrities walking through airport security wearing cool blouses, leather pants, and high heels if you googled “airport outfits”. But is this even possible? Imagine this: These celebrities are likely to fly via private planes or being taken straight to first-class lounges. Because of their “who they” (*insert eyes roll*), they will likely get through security faster than the average traveller.
If you’ve ever been on an airplane before, you know how uncomfortable they can be. It can be awkward to sit between two strangers, when all you want is to lean to one side and fall asleep. It doesn’t matter if your flight is 10 hours or a few hours, you should dress comfortably so that the flight is comfortable.
We prepared a list of top tips for dressing for your flight and three favorite airport outfits.
How To Choose An Outfit For Your Flight
This is how you can create a cute and comfortable outfit that will pass security quickly.
Tip #1: Create a basic outfit and layer it on top.
Planes can be very cold so choose a basic outfit. It could be leggings with a graphic shirt or jeans with a button down. Next, add layers.
Whatever your choice is, we recommend wearing a jacket or scarf that doubles as a pillow, and can triple as an eye mask. When the temperature drops, you will be glad that you did!
Tip #2: Don’t forget to bring your largest items onto the plane.
This is more about packing, but it’s an important tip that we highly recommend. We actually were shocked at the number of people who don’t follow it.
Your bulkiest or most heavy items should be packed on the plane. It will save you so much space! It could be your winter coat or a pair boots. No matter what case it may be, you can take it with you on the plane so that you have the most space possible.
Tip #3: Dress to impress (with the speed you were able get through security).
You know why it seems like a tedious process to get through security? It’s because the people who take the longest time probably haven’t read this article. You can pass security quickly by not wearing anything that could set off sensors or cause them to stop you. Instead, wear easy-to-manage items.
Slip-on shoes are best, unless you have Pre-Check. Wear a pair that has Velcro or zips to make it easier for yourself. Don’t forget to wear no-show socks. Avoid metal and, if necessary, remove it. You might consider removing the belt from your pants and wearing leggings.
We don’t recommend anything that’s too big or flowing, unless you want to be inspected by burly security personnel. You could wear these items in a perfect world. However, it is not possible due to the increased security at airports. So don’t do it. You might also want to layer your bulkiest pieces. However, it is worth planning ahead. While you wait in line, take off your jackets and keep them in your hands.
While you’re doing this, take out your liquids/toiletries and electronic devices (mostly your cell phone) out of your bag. They will likely ask you to do this. You’d be amazed at how many people don’t know this basic information.
Tip #4: Be comfortable
This article is about comfortable airport attire. It doesn’t matter how long your flight is, it’s important to have something you can move in. Even if the planes are small, you can still move around in them.
You could try leggings with an oversize shirt or your favorite jeans with a loose-fitting tee and a hoodie. These are the options we prefer. However, you can choose what is most comfortable for you.
Tip #5 – Wear something warm.
Layering was mentioned above, but we suggest you bring a pair fuzzy socks with you in your carry-on. It can be very cold on planes and blankets they may provide are not always available.
You should always pack a scarf that can double up as a blanket and a cardigan, regardless of whether you are traveling to a warm destination or departure location.

Leggings are a must-have for anyone who loves comfort. Leggings can be purchased in any color you like, but we prefer black leggings that can be paired with a cute top. You can’t go wrong in pink with an oversized hoodie.
The hoodie will keep you warm and cozy. You can layer it with a matching pink camitop to keep you warm if you feel too hot. To add some fun and flair to this outfit, we recommend adding cute hoop earrings to your accessories. They are stylish and classic so they won’t cause any metal detectors to go off.
