Grab your hot rollers and get out of the house! These social events are real and offer a variety of solutions to suit every occasion. But, unlike Carrie Bradshaw, many women over 50 have difficulty putting together festive looks. Here is a refresher on how to get there. You can now slip your Vax card, mask and clutch into your handbag and have a blast.
1. Add some extra style to your hair
Although it’s your most important accessory, there’s no reason not to change the color or style of your hair. You can even spend a little more on a professional haircut. A set of hot curlers or a curling iron or wand will instantly give your bob, lob, or long hair a slick look. They can also disguise any thin hair, dirty hair, or bad cuts.
For instant volume, try hot rollers such as the BaBylissPRO nano Titanium 20 Roller Hairsetter (ulta.com), which can be purchased for $75. For soft waves, use a hot wand such as the InfinitiPRO by Conair Rainbow Titanium Curling Wand, 1 1/4 inches (30 USD, ulta.com). For bouncy, polished curls, you can use a curling iron such as the Kristin Ess Soft Wave Pivoting Wand Curling Iron (barrel size 1 1/4″) ($60, target.com).
FYI: A curling iron comes with a clasp that creates defined ringlets. A curling wand doesn’t have a clasp, so it puts less tension on your hair and creates looser curls.
2. A good bra, a well-fitted bodysuit or Epsom salts can help.
Are you feeling bloated, “fat”, or both? Even the most body-positive people can feel bloated or “fat” by hoping that the dress will zip, the blouse button will close and the jeans will fit. You can take control and cut down on alcohol and salt the day before an event. You can soak in a warm tub with Epsom salts, such as the Dr. Teal’s Pure Epsom Salt Balancing &. Calm Matcha Green Tea Foaming Bath ($8, target.com). These minerals drain excess fluid from the body and help to deflate swelling areas such as breasts, stomach, ankles, and ankles.
Green tea, celery, parsley and steamed asparagus are all natural diuretics that flush out excess water. Slip on some black formwear pieces such as the SKIMS Sculpting Snaps Bodysuit In Onyx ($62; nordstrom.com) before you get dressed. or the Spanx Bra, Hallelujah! For lift and shape, the Full Coverage Bra in Very Black (nordstrom.com, $68) is available. Black bras and shapewear feels more sexy and feminine than those made with nude, despite their compression and construction.
3. Make sure your skin and makeup are radiant
You can put down matte powder and long-wear foundation. These are great for oily skin but not for us. You want skin that looks dewy and hydrated, even if it’s faked with makeup. You can use a hydrating primer, such as the Milani Bright Side Illuminating Primer ($11, ulta.com), or L’Oreal Paris True match Lumi Glotion Natural Glow Embellisher ($15, ulta.com), under your regular foundation or a light reflecting foundation, like Maybelline Fit me Dewy + Smooth Foundation Normal-to Dry ($6, target.com). These primers will smoothen lines, blur discolorations, and give mature skin a healthy glow. The best part? A dewy complexion allows you to do bolder eye or lip colors without looking “painted.”
4. Eye cream and concealer can help you get rid of fatigue
Nobody wants to hear “you look tired”, especially when they are dressed to thrill. This is the no-fail plan. Your eye cream should be kept on-call in the fridge. You can use it to prep your skin, soothe and reduce puffiness, and make concealer glide more easily. A creamy, wand-type concealer with skin-appropriate shades is recommended, such as the Revlon PhotoReady Antioxidant Concealer ($6, Target.com), L’Oreal Paris True match Eye Cream in Concealer With Hyaluronic Acid ($12 Target.com) and Tarte Shape Tape Concealer (29, Ulta.com).
Go warm rather than cool in undertone if choosing between two shades, since a subtle yellow/peachy/apricot tint helps cancel blue/purple discolorations, too. Begin at your inner corners, near your nose. This is where the skin is thickest and darkest. Tap to blend concealer. Use a damp makeup sponge to blend the concealer with your foundation. Apply a little more around your nose and under your eyes to reduce redness.
5. To make your perfume last, layer it
When you go out, fragrance is a big mood-maker. Fragrance can lift your spirits, make you more memorable and attractive to others, and it can also calm you down or get you going for a great time. These are the three secrets to creating a lasting scent. Layer it on top of a moist body cream to help the fragrance stick. It doesn’t have to be fancy — even a basic moisturizer will do. Spray your body spray, perfume or eau de toilette on your pulse points. Also, your inner elbow, inner elbow, wrists and neck are all good places to apply the lotion. It will settle. Resist the temptation to rub it in.
The way you smell will depend on your body temperature, natural oils, and current chemistry. This includes foods recently eaten, hormones, medications, and stress. These three crowd-pleasers are: Jasmine Rose by Good Chemistry Women’s Eau de Parfum ($25; target.com), Michael Cors Sexy Amber Eau de Parfum Spray ($30; ulta.com), and Miss Dior Eau de Parfum (1 ounce) ($82; ulta.com).
6. Use a brighter lipstick
This is the time to experiment with a brighter smile and a more vibrant lip. If you love a bold red lip, a moisturizing liquid that is transfer-resistant, such as Stila Stay All Day Lipstick by Ulta Beauty, Beso, or Fiery ($22 at target.com), or Revlon ColorStay Satin Ik Liquid Lipstick 015 Fire and. Instead of using a bullet-style style, try Ice ($11 at target.com). This tip is perfect for precise application, even if you need to use bolder colors. No lip liner is required.
If you are a lipstick shy person or have small lips, you can use a roll-up pencil crayon. It has a fine tip such as the Maybelline SuperStay Ink Crayon Lipsticks in Run the World and Chase Dreams ($10 at target.com). This will allow for precise application. For those who aren’t a fan of red, softer shades like berry or rose can be a better choice than bold red. These colors give you a long-lasting, beautiful lip that is able to take cocktails, hors de oeuvres, and even face mask interludes without any stress or mess. There’s no need to use lip pencils, blot or retouch your lips.
7. Sparkling earrings and polish can elevate any outfit.
Glitz and glamour are the best way to make a party feel festive. Even a come-as-you-are invite deserves a little effort. Simple swaps that go well with your everyday clothes are the most useful. Swap your regular polish for an elegant metallic such as the Essie Metallics nail polish in Below Zero, For The Twill of it or You’re A Gem ($9 each at ulta.com). These shades are all subtle shades of gray, brown, and olive that go well with any skin tone. They look more sophisticated than glitter. You can also add some statement earrings such as the BaubleBar Tassel Drop Earrings Black ($48; nordstrom.com) and Crystal Fringe Drop Earrings Gold ($48; anthropologie.com).
8. Get your cheeks moving
Never skip blush. Blush is your friend in making mature skin look healthier and more radiant. It is important to consider texture, color, and placement. A cream, not a powder, formula should be used depending on your skin tone. Putty Blush, Turks and Caicos and Bora Bora $6. Target.com; Physicians Formula Dewy Blush Elixir in Apricot Glow and Crushed Berries $11.00 each) or MAC Glow Blush 2 Grand or 6 Cheer up ($30, target.com). Skip the old smile-and-apply-blush-on-the-apples trick. Instead, place it high on your cheekbones. To locate them, tap your fingers.
9. Brighten your eyes
Red eyes can be caused by stress, computer screens, lack of sleep or allergies. Not only do they ruin your best eye makeup but also sabotage your selfies. You can be certain that any event, party or dinner will be captured for social media. You can stay bright-eyed with a beige pencil such as the Essence Extreme Long Lasting Eye Pencil Silky Nude (target.com), Tarte Fake Wake Eyeliner by Ulta Beauty (20% off target.com) and Charlotte Tilbury Rock ‘N’ Kohl Eyeliner in Eye Cheat In Nude (27%) on sephora.com It will be applied to the lower lash line (the inner rim of your lower lashes), to reduce redness and restore a wide-eyed, well-rested look. For definition and shape, add a few drops to your regular eyeliner and mascara.
